When your eyes are examined, the doctor may wish to dilate your eyes. This involves instilling drops in your eyes to enlarge the pupils so the doctor can perform a thorough internal examination of your eye. This is normally done as part of a complete eye exam or consultation, and is essential in order to determine if there is a medical problem in the eye when the vision is not correctable with glasses. When your eyes are dilated, your vision will be temporarily blurry and sensitive to light, typically for four to six hours. The exact duration will depend on your individual reaction to the dilating drops. You may have difficulty reading and doing close work, or being outdoors for several hours after dilation. We can provide temporary sunglasses to reduce the light-sensitivity, but recommend that you do not work or drive for several hours after your eye examination, and make arrangements for transportation after your visit.
In a severe emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room. To reach us for other urgent needs, call our regular office number: (805) 983-0700.
Please keep your phone line open after requesting a call back, and have the number of your pharmacy ready in case you need a prescription.
In an effort to make your visit more efficient, you can download and print these forms from your computer and complete them prior to your appointment. On the day of your scheduled visit, please bring these forms, a copy of your current insurance card, and a photo ID. We look forward to seeing you!

We will submit bills on your behalf to Medicare and insurance plans that we are participating providers for. Our list of participating insurance plans is subject to change. Please call your insurance plan to verify your coverage as well as any requirements or restrictions of your insurance.
Copayments, deductibles, and payments for services not covered by a participating insurance plan are due at the time of service. Refractions (measurement of the eye's prescription), as well as glasses or contact lenses, are generally not covered by medical insurance. They may be covered by vision insurance if you have a vision plan.
For your convenience, we accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.
Financing is available through our CareCredit program, which offers flexible terms, easy payments, and a low interest rate. 90 days "same as cash" terms are also available. CareCredit requires a simple one page credit application.
